Is it time to repipe your home? What are the advantages? What will it cost? What is the best material to use for the repiping project? If you are starting the process of considering repiping for your home, you have many questions and considerations. At Delta Mechanical we have completed over 60,000 single family home repiping projects . Our experts can help you understand the issues and give you the information you need to make an informed decision about repiping your home.

Typically one of two conditions will lead a home owner to consider repiping. Low water pressure, or leaks within your piping system will both cause headache and expense over time.

Perhaps you live in an older home and have experienced one or two instances that required a plumber making a visit. Some plumbing problems are simply that, issues that can be easily repaired by a licensed plumber and that have nothing to do with the piping in your home.  But, if diminished water flow, or leaks that require digging up subterranean pipes are occurring, it could be time to consider repiping.

Traditionally, homes are piped in copper or other metals, including galvanized piping. Copper, as well as other metals, age and develop problems. Scaling naturally occurs, and rust develops. Unfortunately, there is not an effective treatment to remove the gradual buildup of scale over time.

This scale and rust reduces the diameter of the pipe over years, and eventually restricts the flow of water. Is your water flow less than you would like it to be? Have you eliminated other reasons that low flow would be present? Your pipes may have a buildup of scale. As rust and deterioration continues, the quality of the water can also become compromised. Foul taste and odor can be unfortunate effects of the development of scale and rust in your pipes. Water can become unpalatable or even unfit for consumption.

Corrosion also occurs naturally over time. A tiny pinhole leak can develop. Tiny pinholes can exist for many months within walls and basements undetected, allowing small amounts of moisture to infiltrate the interior of your home and causing an ideal environment for mildew and mold to develop and cause damage. And, these tiny leaks will grow over time, and can eventually cause huge property. Depending on the location of the leak, the repairs can be very costly. Many times the initial fix for a pipe leak is to replace the damaged section of pipe only. However, if multiple incidents occur, repiping can be the most cost effective solution, and a timely investment.

What causes copper pipes to corrode? High temperatures, low alkalinity, the presence of chemicals in the water supply such as sulfate and chloride are all potential causes of pitting and corrosion. Older copper piping or galvanized piping in a home can eventually become a detriment to your property values and impact your insurance costs. Today’s repiping is done with superior materials including Flowguard Gold CPVC, recommended by Delta Mechanical, new hard copper, and in some states, Aquapex. Once you have repiped, the benefits are quickly evident, and the issues are eliminated. Immediately, water flow is increased, water quality is improved, and issues with mold, mildew and costly repairs caused by leaks can be resolved.
