Asbestos Abatement

What is it?

Asbestos is either of two incombustible, chemical-resistant, fibrous mineral forms of impure magnesium silicate used for fireproofing. When in an airborne (friable) state, Asbestos contamination in buildings is a significant environmental problem. If Asbestos is present in such areas such as in surfacing materials on ceilings or walls, an Asbestos abatement project would be necessary to access the current pipes and be able to perform a repipe or other renovations. Asbestos abatement must be conducted as required by federal and state law. Working in conjunction with licensed Asbestos Consultants and Industrial Hygienists, Delta Mechanical would have suspect materials tested for Asbestos content. If Asbestos was found to be present, the assembled team would assess the situation and implement an Asbestos abatement or remediation program specifically tailored for the purposes intended. The Asbestos abatement would follow regulations and guidelines set forth by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), including proper containment, disposal, transportation, and record keeping.

Why do you need it?

  • Was your building built before 1978?
  • Have you ever had your building(s) tested for Asbestos?
  • Are you planning to repipe? Renovate?
  • Do you want to reduce liability?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you owe it to yourself and your residents to find out if they are at risk. Asbestos is extremely hazardous and if inhaled it becomes stuck in the lungs and can cause lung cancer or Asbestosis. It is imperative that you have your property tested for asbestos by a licensed Asbestos Consultant if you suspect that there may be Asbestos present. If it is determined that there is Asbestos present, you must by law remove the Asbestos affected by means that are approved by OSHA and EPA. If you do not take action upon discovering Asbestos on your property, you could potentially be held liable.

How is it done?

After determining the quantity and location of ACM (Asbestos Containing Material), an abatement plan of action will be designed by Delta Mechanical in conjunction with a licensed Asbestos consultant. In putting together the abatement plan all parameters that will affect the scope of work, such as if the affected area is vacated or occupied, type of abatement required, types and quantities of required air samplings and tests, will all be taken into consideration. The most suitable and effective method of containment will be determined and implemented under the supervision of a licensed Industrial Hygienist, who will conduct all of the appropriate air samplings and will also provide clearances to allow re-occupancy of the affected areas. Upon completion of the abatement project, the ACM will be removed as prescribed by OSHA and EPA rules and regulations to a regulated disposal site. Delta Mechanical will provide the owner (the Generator) all required documentation while also keeping the same records as long as required by all state and federal regulations.
